The Ruach convention is a blast, so why not bring the right essentials to make it even better? My experience at NTO’s Ruach convention will now be a core memory, although I was an 8th grader.  My region spent two nights and three days at a wonderful campsite where we bonded, learned from each other, and, of course, had an amazing time! So here are some essentials I recommend you bring with you to your region’s Ruach Convention!

  1. Digital camera

Do you know how phone camera pictures aren’t always the best or get boring? Well, the solution is a digital camera.

You can get one off of Amazon for as low as $15 and have AMAZING pictures to savor memories and fun experiences. I made the rookie mistake of not bringing one and was left with just plain, normal pictures. I encourage you to try and purchase one before your next convention.

  1. Sweats/ comfy clothes

Who knew, being at a campground in the middle of April, that it would get chilly in the morning and night? I would totally encourage you to bring a pair of sweats even if you live somewhere warm, because who wouldn’t like to be all comfy when possible. Maybe you’re not a fan of sweats and would prefer something comfy, so pack some T-shirts and shorts to stay comfortable so you can fully enjoy your time.

  1. More shower essentials

Cleaning yourself after an eventful day is key. During convention, you might get sweaty or dirty, so it is essential to shower off all of that before bed. Who likes to sleep unclean? Not me! Packing necessities like body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are your start to feeling and smelling better. Shower shoes might be the most important thing in all your shower essentials. Who wants their feet touching a nasty campsite shower floor? You can get shower shoes anywhere, and they would work perfectly. There is no need for anything fancy, just ones that work.

  1. Water bottle

You will be thirsty. From all of the activities to Shabbat singing, you will be winded and want some iced cold water. Yes, there are cups, but having your own water bottle is just way more convenient. Plus, who wants to be the person asking everybody for their water? Gross!

  1. SNACKS

Although, during the convention, there are tons of meals, who wouldn't like to pack their own specific snacks. While you’re getting ready for Shabbat or just waiting for the next group activity, having a snack on hand is very helpful. A lot of people are picky eaters, and the lunch might not be what you envisioned.  At night, my cabin all had a snack circle and talked about our experiences and our favorite part of the day!

  1. Bluetooth speaker

MUSIC! I am personally a really big music listener, especially while getting ready, going somewhere, or just to vibe. Having a Bluetooth speaker was so essential to make my experience even better. My whole cabin enjoyed listening to rap and Israeli music while getting ready and during quiet hours! Having a speaker is an easy way to bring the vibes up and wake everyone up! I totally recommend you bring a speaker!

  1. Open Mindset

Last but not least, an open mindset. Imagine you don’t get into a cabin with all three of your best friends. The best thing you can do for yourself and your whole cabin is to have an open mindset about being away from your closest friends. Conventions are the perfect time to branch out and gain relationships with other people. Yes, it's awesome to be with your best friends, but who would mind getting a few more? These three-day experiences help you bond with others, but only if you come into it with an open mindset about it being an amazing time!
