Celebrating our achievements is one of our longest standing traditions. For teens who have worked hard and dedicated themselves to the goals of BBYO, and thereby, the values of K’lal Yisrael, the Global Jewish community, we thank you. It is through AZA and BBG International Awards that we hope to congratulate and honor Alephs and BBG for their accomplishments.

Apply for International Awards on a rolling basis. Certificates and pins will be sent out three times a year. If you want to be recognized at International Convention 2023, make sure to apply by January 16th.

BBYO Individual Awards

The Menorah Pledge and Cardinal Principles Award

Awarded to Alephs and BÊŒnai BÊŒrith Girls who truly embody the Cardinal and Menorah Pledge Principles, this award honors those teens that have dedicated their time and energy to promoting the values of our Orders and who have embraced the ideals in all aspects of their lives.

Recipients of this award are nominated by their fellow Alephs and B’nai B’rith Girls, making this an especially noteworthy award.

The Anita Perlman Stand UP Award

The Anita Perlman Stand UP Award honors those individuals who have worked to Stand UP and better their community through consistent and quality community service. Every member of AZA and BBG who actively participates in their chapter’s community service projects, excels in independent community service work, and is regularly immersed in direct or indirect service, philanthropy or advocacy efforts is eligible to apply for this award.

Criteria:

  • A minimum of 50 hours of community service (both BBYO organized and independent) in one school year.
  • At least one community service or advocacy project planned by the applicant for their chapter, council, region or country.

The Arevut Explore Israel Award

All members who have consistently sought out and built opportunities to learn about, educate others on, explore, and advocate for the State of Israel are eligible to apply for or be nominated for this award. Alephs and BBGs who have inspired others to seek to educate themselves and continue to create meaningful Explore Israel experiences for their peers may be selected by the International Sh’lichim to receive this honor.

The Rising Leader Award

The Rising Leader Award was established within the Movement at the February Executives Business Meeting at International Convention 2022. This award seeks to provide the Movement with a way to recognize and celebrate our youngest Rising Leaders across the Movement.

Awarded to Grade 8, Grade 9 (Freshman) and Grade 10 (Sophomore) Alephs and B’nai B’rith Girls who truly embody and display the ideals and principles of our Movement, the Rising Leader Award honors those teens that have displayed extraordinary leadership for the benefit of their chapter, region, and the International Order.  Recipients of the Rising Leaders Award show immense promise for current and continued leadership in their chapter, region, and the International Order.

‍Recipients of this award are nominated by their fellow Grade 11 (Junior) and Grade 12 (Senior) Alephs and B’nai B’rith Girls, making this an especially noteworthy award.

AZA Individual Awards

The Shield of David Award

One of the most historic and prestigious honors awarded to an Aleph, the Shield of David Award recognizes Alephs who have made outstanding leadership contributions, displayed a consistent commitment to the fraternity that is AZA, and have consistently shown that they exemplify the principles that the Aleph Zadik Aleph holds so dear.

The award is based on a holistic evaluation of the following achievements in a member’s participation:

  • Fulfilling the duties of office at any level of the Aleph Zadik Aleph.
  • Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee.
  • Contributing to the Aleph’s chapter.
  • Fulfilling his responsibility of giving the experience of AZA to others through recruitment.

Every Aleph in good standing may apply for the Bronze Shield of David Award. The Silver Shield of David Award is awarded to Alephs who have gone above and beyond in the achievements listed above, and have support from fellow Alephs, BBGs, professional staff, and/or alumni in their deservance of this award.

The application must be completed and submitted before the applicant becomes an alumnus.

The Tree of Life Recruitment Award

The Tree of Life Recruitment Award is an honor given to those Alephs in good standing who have played a significant and lasting part in growing the Aleph Zadik Aleph. Their efforts have contributed to the strengthening of our Order’s future. Tree of Life Award recipients leave a legacy in their chapters, councils, regions and countries as they welcome a new generation to love, cherish, and preserve the traditions of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and BBYO.

BBG Individual Awards

The Star of Deborah Award

One of the most historic and prestigious honors awarded to a BBG, the Star of Deborah Award recognizes BBGs who have made outstanding leadership contributions, displayed a consistent commitment to the sisterhood that is BBG, and have consistently shown that they exemplify the principles that the
B'nai B'rith Girls holds so dear.

The award is based on a holistic evaluation of the following achievements in a member’s participation:

  • Fulfilling the duties of office on any level of the B'nai B'rith Girls
  • Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee
  • Contributing to the BBG's chapter
  • Fulfilling her responsibility of giving the experience of BBG to others through recruitment

Every BBG in good standing may apply for the Silver Star of Deborah Award. The Gold Star of Deborah Award is awarded to BBGs who have gone above and beyond in the achievements listed above, and have support from fellow BBG, Alephs, professional staff, and/or alumni in their deservance of this award.

The Eternal Light Recruitment Award

The B’nai B’rith Girls’ Eternal Light Recruitment Award is an honor given to B’nai B’rith Girls in good standing who played a significant and lasting part in growing the B'nai B'rith Girls. The BBYO Stand UP Gemilut Chasidim Award

The BBYO Stand UP Gemilut Chasidim Chapter Award recognizes those AZA, BBG, and BBYO chapters around the world that work to better their community through civic action. To ensure that our endeavors are well rounded, we utilize direct service, philanthropy, advocacy, community organizing, and entrepreneurship. These pieces make up the SPA model.

Direct Service: Hands-on service that meets the immediate needs of a community.
‍Philanthropy: Funds raised that are donated towards a cause.
‍Advocacy: Communication with government representatives to implement policies and education for the public around a topic to encourage a change in behavior.

Any AZA, BBG, or BBYO chapter in good standing may apply.

Based on the submissions and scope of your chapter's efforts, we will be handing out Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. The Gold Award is the highest honor a chapter can receive for their Stand UP achievements.

The International Service Fund (ISF) Clubs

The International Service Fund (ISF) Clubs recognize chapters who show an unwavering commitment to raising, prioritizing and distributing much needed tzedakah around the globe. Deserving chapters contribute to ISF at Bronze ($250+), Silver ($750+), Gold ($1,500+), and Platinum ($3,000+) levels to provide Jewish teens worldwide with need-based scholarship to participate in BBYO and Jewish life, give charity when it is needed proactively and at times of crisis, and give to their BBYO Stand UP philanthropy at the chapter level.

Staff and Advisor Awards

The Arnie Weiner Professional Excellence Award

Arnie Weiner was the Regional Director of BBYO Michigan Region from 1969 to 2008. His passion and dedication to AZA and BBG made chapter involvement a profound experience for Jewish teens in Michigan and throughout the country.

Given to a staff member who furthers the principles of AZA and BBG as nominated by the teens they work with.

Summer Spotlight Award

Given to a staff member who is recognized by their colleagues for hard work and leadership at their BBYO Summer Experience.

Todd Kay Chesed Award

Todd Kay was the Senior Regional Director of BBYO Ohio Northern Region from 2008 until 2015. He exemplified chesed by going above and beyond to help others and through his tireless commitment to BBYO and his community.

Given to a staff member who demonstrates devotion to colleagues through building staff community and creates a meaningful work environment through their daily actions.

David Bittker Unsung Hero Award

David Bittker z”l selflessly invested his time, passion and resources to strengthen the Jewish community. BBYO seeks to share David’s model of leadership with generations of young people.

The David Bittker Unsung Hero Award is presented annually by BBYO to an outstanding advisor who demonstrates David’s qualities: integrity, humility, dedication and hard work.

Criteria to Nominate an Advisor:‍

  • Minimum of two years serving as an advisor

  • Involvement at the chapter and regional level

  • Goes above and beyond in ensuring teens in their chapter and region have an incredible BBYO experience

  • Serves as a coach and mentor as they continue to build leaders within their chapter
