Training and Leadership Development

Preparing the next generation of leaders

The secret to our success in AZA and BBG is the strength of our leaders. Alephs and BBGs learn new skills and sharpen old ones through year-round training experiences at local and movement levels. Taking time at the beginning of each year to reflect on our wins and identify opportunities for us to grow—as individuals and as chapters—is one of the most important things we can do. When we set goals, understand the responsibilities of our roles, and use the tools that are available to us, we’re unstoppable.

Get Started

At the start of every semester, chapters and regions run training experiences for teens in formal and informal leadership roles. These moments serve to align teens, staff, and advisors on goals for the upcoming term, learn new and re-fresh familiar best practices, and build plans to kick off their calendar strong. Annually, every community centralizes this training at a local experience, often called a Regional Leadership Training Institute (RLTI). Additional training opportunities are offered year-round on BBYO On Demand for all teens, from any community, to join in.

Calendaring

Having an exciting calendar planned and distributed at the start of a semester is one of the most important things that a community can have to set themselves up for success. Strong calendaring drives healthy membership more than anything else. Use this featured training to ensure your calendars are excellent and in the hands of prospects and members.

Prospecting

Every numerical goal that we set in AZA and BBG has to have names that go with it. When we work to welcome new members into our chapters or inspire current members to attend leadership experiences, it’s important that we have active, current, and detailed information. Use this featured training to get your community up to speed on prospecting current and prospective members.

Hosting

When any teen starts to get involved with BBYO, we want them to feel welcome. Feeling comfortable in AZA and BBG starts with how we build relationships, set up our events and spaces, and what our follow-up looks like after teens leave an experience. Use this featured training to explore what being an excellent host means and get started building hosting plans for kickoff.

Chapter Excellence

Reviewing where our chapters are and visioning where we want them to be are a core part of every training and start-of-term experience. We have a suite of Chapter Excellence Tools that can be used depending on what your chapter is looking for.

The Chapter Checklist is a short snapshot for chapters to see what components a chapter is or is not including.

The Chapter Roadmap provides a list and order of what to do and when as chapters are being built and strengthened.

The Chapter Assessment is a tool designed to be used with chapter and regional leaders to explore not just if a chapter has all the core components, but to explore how well they are doing each one of them.

Models for Regional Leadership Training Institutes (RLTIs)

Regional Leadership Training Institutes (RLTIs) are held annually or at the start of every semester for a community's leaders. While traditionally for teens with elected leadership positions, it is a best practice to create space for appointed (chairpersons) or aspiring (engaged members) leaders to join as well. RLTIs vary in size and structure, but all share the common goals of: (re)sharing tools and best practices, generating relationships between networks and boards, breaking down goals, and uniting the community around a shared vision for the year ahead.
