Participating in the planning aspect of the BBYO International Convention (IC) 2026 has been one of the most notable aspects of my leadership journey. This role allowed me to grow as a leader, connect with my  peers from across the Order, and contribute to an empowering space for teens to engage with their Jewish heritage in ways that were meaningful, engaging, and most important accessible to them.

When I first received the notification that I had been offered a role as a JLab captain I was overfilled with excitement. I knew it would be a challenge, but one I was excited to take on. My highlight of attending IC in years past was JLab, of course I was drawn to the flashy concerts and socializing but something about exploring my Jewish identity in new ways that deeply connected with me. JLab is a space for teens to interact with different Jewish aspects that speak to them; there is always something for everyone who walks in. Teens can learn and connect to their personal Judaism in fun and interesting ways leaving them wanting more. I want each and every teen who walked through those doors to feel seen and empowered.

In the months leading up to IC, I had the privilege of collaborating with Rabbi Meir Tannenbaum and several teen leaders to bring our visions for this year’s JLab to life. Together, we were able to create a space that balanced learning with fun and meaningful ways to give teens different points of engagement.

Serving as a JLab Captain taught me invaluable lessons about leadership and the power of teamwork. I learned how to manage complex logistics and handle unexpected challenges with a positive mindset. However, most importantly, I learned the power of creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and heard.

Reflecting back on this incredible opportunity, I am so grateful for the support of my fellow Steering Captains, BBYO Staff, and every teen who took a leap of faith into Jewish learning alongside us. This experience reminded me of the strength of our BBYO community and the incredible things we can achieve when we work together.

Looking back, my time as a JLab Captain will always be a highlight of my BBYO journey. It reminded me of the power that lies within true teamwork and the inspiration my actions can bring to others. I am so excited to see the next generation of Jewish leaders continue to shape our movement on the values of pluralism and accessibility that JLab beautifully embodies.
