This past weekend, a group of teens from Maccabi Tzair’s Young Ambassadors Program gathered in Tel Aviv for an unforgettable seminar filled with learning, bonding, and meaningful Jewish experiences.
Who Are the Young Ambassadors?
The Young Ambassadors Program is designed to prepare motivated teens to become the next generation of Israel’s representatives both within the movement and throughout the Jewish world. Participants learn essential leadership skills, explore Jewish and Israeli identity, and develop the ability to speak about their experiences with confidence, responsibility, and pride.
The program brings together teens from chapters all across Israel, forming one united group that meets throughout the year for seminars, delegations, and shared learning. Ambassadors later bring their knowledge back to their home chapters, strengthen their communities, and model the values of Maccabi Tzair.
Being a Young Ambassador means representing the movement with curiosity, commitment, and a deep sense of purpose while building lifelong friendships along the way.
The Tel Aviv Seminar: A Shabbat to Remember
Friday: Exploring Jaffa and Welcoming Shabbat
The seminar kicked off on Friday afternoon as the group arrived in Tel Aviv and immediately set out for a guided tour of Jaffa. Walking through the ancient alleys, the port, and the lively markets, participants discovered the beauty and complexity of the city. The tour ended in the bustling Jaffa Flea Market, where everyone enjoyed free time, great food, and a taste of Tel Aviv’s unique energy.
After returning to the hotel, the group met with a soldier who is both a BBYO alumnus and an IDF servicemember who took part in the events and reserve duty following October 7. His personal story was powerful and eye-opening, connecting past and present through shared values, resilience, and service.
Later, everyone dressed for Shabbat and walked together to a Reform Kabbalat Shabbat service. For many, it was a new and surprising experience but also a meaningful opportunity to explore a different expression of Jewish identity. The evening concluded with a warm Kiddush and candle lighting, bringing the whole group together in a shared Shabbat atmosphere.
Saturday: Learning, Inspiration, and a Special Havdalah
Shabbat morning continued with learning sessions, including an engaging lecture with Nitzan, who presented BBYO in a way that captured everyone’s attention. Her talk sparked meaningful conversations about global Jewish leadership and the unique role teens can play in shaping their communities.
As the seminar drew to a close, the group gathered for a beautiful Havdalah ceremony, and this time, parents joined as well. Their presence added warmth, pride, and emotion to the moment. Together, parents and teens sang, smiled, and welcomed the new week with a strong sense of connection and shared purpose. It was a highlight of the weekend and for many, a moment they will remember for a long time.
A Weekend That Stays With You
The Tel Aviv Seminar was more than just a Shabbat away from home—it was a meaningful step in the journey of the Young Ambassadors. Between inspiring speakers, new Jewish experiences, and unforgettable moments with friends, participants left feeling empowered, connected, and excited for the year ahead.
If this weekend is any indication, the Young Ambassadors are on their way to becoming thoughtful, confident, and impactful leaders both within Maccabi Tzair and the global Jewish community.
