Especially as a freshman I’m sure everyone has heard “You should really go to the next regional convention” or “This regional convention is going to be one of the best weekends ever.” But what are the real reasons you should go?

#10: The Bus Ride There

One of the most exciting things about a regional convention is getting to the convention itself! There is nothing that gets me more pumped for the weekend than getting to the bus stop, seeing my friends, and riding the bus there. And blasting music on the way there really makes you feel the energy of the weekend!

#9: Seeing Your Regional Friends

When I get off the bus there is nothing more amazing than seeing your regional friends. It really gets you so excited for the rest of the weekend when you see friends who may not have seen each other for a few months run into each other's arms.

#8: Meeting Your Roommates

Even though you probably picked at least one of your roommates, it is always so exciting to learn who is in your room. Sometimes you learn that you’re with some of your best friends or you could be with some people that could become some of your closest friends by the end of the weekend!

#7: Making Top 10 Lists

One of my personal favorite things to do at conventions is make Top 10 Lists with my friends, and sometimes, with the whole region! These really prove to show that there is never a dull moment at a regional convention and that there is always something fun to do.

#6: Shabbat Programming

This may not be everyone’s favorite part of a convention but it is definitely always a highlight for me. Seeing everyone gather together to welcome Shabbat is so meaningful. And with all of the fun BBYO twists, the programming is far from dull.

#5: General Programming

As a regional convention steerer myself, I know how much work is put into planning the programs for the weekend. And I have to say that programming is what really defines the convention. Engaging in the programs not only guarantees that you’ll have a great time at the convention, but also allows you to take away something from the weekend.

#4: Havdalah

Even though it may not seem so significant, a BBYO Havdalah is one of the most exciting things I have ever been a part of. Joining with your friends from across the region to close out Shabbat is just so vibrant and an experience like no other.

#3: Making New Friends

I have made some of my closest friends at regional conventions. And I feel like it’s super cool to have friends from all over my region: both super close, and some who live a little farther away. Regional conventions really give you the space to make new relationships whether it’s your first time or your fifth time!

#2: Making New Memories

Every regional convention is an opportunity to make new memories. There has never been a time where I simply left a convention the exact way that I got there. I always come home with a funny story, a new inside joke, or a new friendship. It truly makes the convention experience that much more special when you leave with more than you came with.

#1: Signing Up for the Next Convention

After one convention, there is nothing you want to do more than go back. I am always the first one at my computer getting ready to sign up for the next convention because I am just so excited to go back.

Since we are in the middle of fall and winter convention season, I think everyone should sign up for their regional convention. They are always super fun and an experience that I hope everyone gets to enjoy.
