My time as a Global Shabbat Coordinator has been nothing short of incredible, unique, and fun. Working alongside my amazing fellow coordinators and committee members has been a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait for what’s next. This role has helped me grow in so many ways—from collaborating with people from all over the world to helping teens create meaningful programs, I’ve enjoyed every second.
Global Shabbat is such a special moment in our movement, where we all come together from across the world to celebrate Shabbat. It may seem grand, but in truth, it’s simple and incredibly meaningful. I remember planning my first Global Shabbat program as my chapter’s Sh’licha. It was so fulfilling to think through the details and let our Judaism shine through the programming. This past year has been challenging, but I’ve found that Shabbat is one of those things that unites us all.
I decided to apply for the Global Shabbat Coordinator position after a difficult election loss. I wanted to expand my leadership skills, so I turned to the ILN, which ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I remembered how special planning Global Shabbat felt and wanted to help others experience the same joy. When I received the call saying I’d been selected, I was thrilled!
The process began with getting to know each other and choosing a theme. We settled on “From Strength to Strength”—a theme that resonated deeply with all of us. From there, we moved on to promotions, creating a video and posts to spread the word about Global Shabbat. Next came developing resources: scripting outlines, prayer guides, and a new addition this year—office hours! Every Sunday, we hold calls to assist participants, offering two different time slots every other week to ensure our international regions can join comfortably.
I’m so excited about our next steps, which include YOU! We finally get to create programs with you, guiding you through scripting, grant applications, program outlines, and more. We’re here to help make your programs bigger and better, working together to make this Global Shabbat the best one yet! I hope to see you at one of our upcoming office hours to chat and hear your ideas, and I can’t wait to help make your Global Shabbat dreams come true!
